no sugar for a week

Sugar has been a big topic lately, with the traditional media covering it and nontraditional media such as youtube talking about it as well. I don’t eat that much sugar as it is, but I found the topic really interesting, so I ended up reading up on it. The recommended amount of sugar for a women is 6 tsp a day and for a man it’s 9 tsp a day, but the average American consumers 17 tsp of sugar a day. There are a lot of negative effects sugar can have on your physical health, but I was more interested on how giving up sugar could improve my mental health. studies have shown that adults have a bigger risk of depression if they consume a lot of sugar. I was just hoping that by the end of the week my mood would improve and I would stop having my afternoon crash.

For me, breakfast was the hardest, since I normally start off my day with a waffle and sugar filled yogurt. Some mornings I woke up wanting my waffles, but this week forced me to try new things for breakfast and I ended up really liking some of them. A rice cake with avocado and egg whites is now one of my go to breakfasts.

I got sick the day after I started this, so my boyfriend was really sweet and made me a smoothie without sugar. This started as a week challenge, but it’s been two months now and I’ve only had sugar once. This was easier then I thought it would be. A lot of things have been going on in my life recently and it hasn’t been easy dealing with everything at once, but I did find I was mentally doing better and coping a lot better with my current situation then I had dealt with things in the past. I was hoping that giving up sugar would get rid of my mid day crash, but I didn’t think that it would change anything physically. I’ve read a lot about what people eat effecting them more then how much they eat. Basically saying if someone eats 2000 calories of healthy food they are better off then someone who eats 1700 calories of junk food.

Since I didn’t expect my body to change a lot from this I didn’t take any before and after pictures, but after about two weeks I started to notice a big difference. One of the main changes for me was I didn’t bloat as much and it was a lot easier to burn fat at the gym.

I always think most things in moderation is the healthiest way to go and I will continue that. I don’t eat sugar anymore on a day to day basis, but every once in a while I like to have some rice dream with my boyfriend or a waffle.

5 Detox Water Recipes and Benefits

Instructions: Rinse the blueberries, mint, and raspberries and put them in a container. Pour water in the container and leave it overnight.

Red ApplesApple Detox water: The apple will act as an energy booster, I like to have it around one in the afternoon when I’m starting to slow down. This drink also bust your metabolism and has lots of antioxidents. You can add a pinch of cinnamon if you want, I personally like it plain, but it depends on you preference.

Instructions: Cut 5 thin slices of a sweet apple(you can add more if you want)add water and let sit for at least ten minutes. If you want it to be stronger make it up the night before and leave it in the fridge overnight.

 

Water can get a bit boring sometimes and fruit and herbs can add some flavor when I want something besides water to drink. Their refreshing and perfect for summer. I hope this was helpful x
